ENEMY’ is the introductory track from the upcoming Easy Wanderlings EP, ‘Caught in a Parade’. The song is adynamic interlacing of soul & soft rock elements providing an ideal accompaniment to its introspective lyrics.
The arching theme is based on Cancel culture, started as a social change movement and a means to hold individuals in power accountable for their abusive actions. It has now become the "go-to" means of voicing disapproval against anyone, giving no room for change and growth over time. Striving to stand on the right side of everyone’s opinion while expressing yourself is an exhausting burden. No one wants to be hated, yet it feels like we’re inevitably bound to offend someone every time we speak our minds. There are people solely waiting to see you slip, looking for a reason to hate you, to make you the antagonist.
lyrics
Hey, possible that some can't see,
Prejudiced the heart can be,
With crowded views,
Bottled up and weighs you down,
Change it up till no one sees my feelings,
I wanna be the enemy,
so hard to know what is right,
Reveal just a fantasy, while the hands are tied
I’m running out of energy, glitter of our paradise,
Will you look out for me, as I lose the will to fly?
Amazed, to see how much I've had to change,
To move toward a greater plain,
Since the dawn, compromised to dominate
And still feel out of place, until now.
I'm gonna be the enemy,
let go of what is right,
Living my reality, one day at a time,
I’ve run out of energy,
So hard to gratify,
Will you look out for me, as I lose the will to fly?
